About the Author

Iris Maahs was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, but many of her poems reflect the twenty-four years she spent in southern Louisiana before returning home to San Antonio. She holds a BA in English Education from Louisiana State University and a Master of Education from Loyola University of the South. A retired school counselor and English teacher, she has been writing poetry since 1991. Her poems have been published nationally and awarded prizes at the local, state, and national levels. She works with the San Antonio Poetry Fair, an organization dedicated to encouraging students in local schools to read and write poetry and is a councilor for the Poetry Society of Texas. She resides in San Antonio, Texas with her husband Harvey. She has a daughter, Dana and a son, Gary.
