Hugo Mujica

Hugo Mujica was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1942. His poetry and translations of his poetry have appeared in journals and other publications in Argentina, France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, and the United States. What the Embrace Embraces is the first book-length publication of poems selected from his Poesía completa 1983-2004 (2006) to be translated into English. In addition to nine books of poetry Mujica has published two collections of short stories and six books of critical essays.

Joan Lindgren, the translator of What the Embrace Embraces, was a Fulbright Border Scholar, and lived on the US/Mexican Border. Unthinkable Tenderness: Selected Poems of Juan Gelman, which she edited and translated, was published by the University of California Press in 1997.
